The event was reportedly in protest of government policies in Tibet. Phuntsog died of his injuries after he was hidden by other monks and delayed medical treatment.<\/p>\n<div><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/div>\n<p>This week, a local court has just sentenced the three monks allegedly involved in Phuntsog\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>The court sentenced monks, Tsering Tenzin and Tenchum to 13 and 10 years in prison. According to\u00a0<em>China Daily<\/em>, the two monks \u2018plotted, instigated and assisted\u2019 the self-immolation of Phuntsog. \u00a0The two monks are of the\u00a0Kirti\u00a0Monastery\u00a0in\u00a0Aba\u00a0Tibetan-Qiang\u00a0Autonomous Prefecture.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chinadaily.com.cn\/china\/2011-08\/31\/content_13223892.htm\">China Daily<\/a><\/em>\u00a0also reported that three days before Phuntsog\u2019s self-immolation, Tenchum and another monk named Dorje<br \/>\nsent photos of Phuntsog and Tsering Tenzin to a monk living overseas. This reportedly proved the move was premeditated.<\/p>\n<p>The two sentences follow Monday\u2019s in which, a monk,\u00a0Drongdru, was found guilty of intentional homicide of the young monk\u2014Phuntsog was reportedly his nephew and disciple\u2013 and was slapped with an 11 year sentence.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2011\/aug\/30\/world\/la-fg-china-monks-20110831\">Los Angeles Times<\/a>, tensions at the monasteries are partly blamed on Chinese authorities who, since 2008, have reportedly forced monks to attend \u201cpatriotic education\u201d sessions in which they are ordered to denounce the Dalai Lama and pledge their allegiance to China.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.longislandpress.com\/2011\/09\/04\/two-monks-sentenced-to-prison-in-death-of-another-monk\/\">http:\/\/www.longislandpress.com\/2011\/09\/04\/two-monks-sentenced-to-prison-in-death-of-another-monk\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to the\u00a0New York Times, a chinese court sentenced two Tibetan monks to long prison terms in the case of the death of another monk.
