Osama virus?!
Couple of days ago the news of Osama’s death hit the internet almost instantly as it was published from the whitehouse. If you have been observing closely, you would find that the spam rate increased to a great extent in past 2 days. You will have to see stupid messages by your friends on the social network sites like facebook and twitter.
Some of your friends might share a link which would say this:
Click on this image to see uncensored attack images of Osama
And you will BLINDLY click on the link, and boom, there is NO video, but instead you are attacked by a hidden worm/virus or whatever it is. Your computer instantly turns into a zombie. Clicking on that link installed a malicious code on your computer which will listen to a specific command that it will receive from it’s author. On the other hand, your facebook account will go under control of the “Osama link application”.
The link you clicked on to see his uncensored video! This application will spam the link to the facebook walls of your friends and even have access to the email list! And there goes another bunch of people who will receive the spam and malicious link. Possibly 90% of your friends will click on it, and the code will get installed on their PCs as well.
Now what next? This code, as stated before will listen to it’s master’s command. The master may be sitting at his home watching the shit getting spread so fast. He took the advantage of the people’s psychology to blindly click on the link and take personal advantage out of it.
So the hacker might wait for a few days until he has a specific target to attack, or he might just do nothing and ruin people’s lives by making the code consume all the computer’s resources, making the machine slow.
Or, he might make the code send all the financial information, passwords, files, etc. Or, it might just be a simple keylogger which will send every key stroke that you type, that includes all the passwords as well.
Now, when the hacker wants to attack a particular website, the code will receive the command from the hacker. Now the machine will start to sent http requests to the server/website to be attacked. As such, there will be millions of computers infected with this virus, all of them sending http requests at a very high rate will eventually bring down the targetted website rendering it to be inaccessible and proving the hacker successful. Such types of attackes are called DDoS (distributed denial of service). you can always search on google for more specific and detailed information on this topic.
This is just the iceberg information you have learnt from this blog post! There is way too much info about this if you have to go deep into it. but for now this is it.
I hope you people have learnt something about how these hackers use the human psychology to spread their spam links everywhere! So try avoiding clicking on useless applications on facebook. You dont need them. It might look funny to you, but you are leaving backdoors open for a large number of hackers around the world.
Beware on facebook, it is dangerous to you if you go on clicking unknown links that your friend’s might have shared!
