The Moon Gets Bigger
Well as you probably know, this night will be a special one, like it was in year 2008, when the moon got closer to our earth to reliable distance. Today, 19.03.2011 the moon “hits” again. The astronomers guessed the distance of wich moon will achieve tonight will be a “mere” 30.000 km . Not much huh? But, they added a probability that it will slightly affect the oceans although it’s not confirmed. The scientists say the full moon on March 19, 2011 will be the closest it has been to Earth since 1992. When the Moon is closest to Earth it is said to be at its perigee. When it is at the farthest distance from Earth it is at its apogee. This event, also known as an extreme supermoon, may result in big storms, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other natural disasters (but it’s still not confirmed as i stated above). The effects of the supermoon are not seen instantly, but lag by a few days.
